PM Shehbaz inaugurates Jinnah square underpass, praises swift completion, national impact

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday inaugurated the Jinnah Square Murree Road Underpass, a key infrastructure project completed in a record time of just 35 days. The Prime Minister hailed the underpass as a milestone in national connectivity, enhancing access from Islamabad to the popular tourist destination of Murree.

The newly constructed underpass spans approximately 479 meters and features three traffic lanes designed to ease congestion and reduce travel time. It forms part of a broader signal-free corridor initiative aimed at streamlining traffic flow from Islamabad International Airport to Murree.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Interior Minister Senator Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi and his team, including Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa and IG Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, for their dedication and efficiency in delivering the project within an unprecedented timeline.

The prime minister noted that the nearly 9-kilometre connectivity route would not only benefit residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad but also serve the entire country by facilitating smoother travel to Murree.

He also reflected on the project’s rapid execution, recalling that he had laid the foundation stone just over a month ago. “This project, comprising the underpass, a new road network, and landscaping, has set a new benchmark for infrastructure development,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif encouraged the interior minister and other officials to maintain this momentum, stating humorously that if this pace continued, such projects might be completed in a single day in the future.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to congratulate the nation on the Armed Forces of Pakistan’s recent military success, which he described as a “glaring victory” achieved through strategic excellence and unity. “The courage and unity of our people, along with the blessings of Almighty Allah, have written a proud chapter in our history that our adversaries will remember,” he said.

Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi briefed the prime minister on the underpass project and expressed gratitude to the CDA, Islamabad Police, NESPAK, and all project stakeholders. He also announced that planning was underway for additional developments, including the Shaheen Chowk Underpass, a Safari Park, and a Chairlift project.

The event was attended by several federal ministers and parliamentarians, including Hanif Abbasi, Dr. Tariq Fazl Chaudhary, Talal Chaudhary, and Talha Burki.
