PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League(N) filed a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court to issue an order for the oath-taking ceremony from minority and women members elected on reserved seats for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
The petition has been filed by the PML-N through Advocate Rehmanullah Shah and Advocate Ashfaq Daudzai, in which the Election Commission and the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly have been made parties. The petition states that after the Supreme Court Constitutional Bench decision, the members elected on reserved seats of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly were restored. On July 02, the Election Commission issued a notification for the restoration of the members. The petitioners sent a petition to the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly for oath, but the oath has not been taken yet, while the Secretary and Speaker of the Provincial Assembly said that they will be sworn in when the assembly session is held. Under Article 255(2) of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the Chief Justice has been given the authority to nominate anyone to administer the oath to the members. Senate elections are scheduled in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on July 21. The court has been requested to administer an oath to the members before the Senate elections so that they can cast their votes in the Senate elections. It was also been requested that the petition be scheduled for early hearing.
