PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League(N) leader Azmat Khan Daudzai has said that the exploitative system has punished honest and poverty-stricken masses consumers of electricity, while electricity thieves and freeloaders enjoy the protection of government silence and incompetence.
In a statement he said that poverty-stricken masses and daily wagers pay bills every month he has to pay the bills of people who either belong to the influential class or who keep the law at bay.
He further said that if the government really wants to bring reforms, then the first thing the parliament should do is end the free electricity facility of high-ranking officials, oblige influential institutions and individuals to pay bills at market rates, and carry out indiscriminate operations against electricity thieves.
“The poor section of the country cannot tolerate any more oppression. Every month, when they see the bill, it seems as if there is no electricity, the blood of the people is being squeezed,” Azmat Khan expressed a strong reaction.
Finally, he demanded that the electricity prices should be reduced immediately, and subsidies should be given only to the deserving families, while strict and practical action should be taken against electricity theft.
It is time for the government and state institutions to wake up and end this cruel system that is taking away the right to live from the working people.
