ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has signed the Pakistan Land Port Authority Bill 2025 into law, establishing a new statutory body to streamline cross-border trade and travel.
With this move, Pakistan becomes the third country in South Asia—after Bangladesh (2002) and India (2012)—to create a dedicated land port authority. The Pakistan Land Port Authority (PLPA) will coordinate among border agencies, facilitate movement at key land crossings, and strengthen Pakistan’s commitments under international trade and border management agreements.
The bill was passed by the National Assembly on August 7, following earlier approval by the standing committee. It was introduced by Minister of State for Interior and Narcotics Control Talal Chaudhry on behalf of Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi. Amendments proposed by PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar were accepted and incorporated into the final draft before approval.
The new authority is expected to enhance regional trade competitiveness and centralise operations at land border crossings.
