The President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Peshkeshian, met with the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, at the Presidential Palace, where they agreed to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.
The Iranian President is on an official visit to Pakistan along with his delegation and was warmly welcomed by President Asif Zardari upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar was also present on the occasion.
A dinner was also hosted in honour of the Iranian President and his delegation at the Presidential Palace, after which the two leaders held detailed discussions. President Zardari appreciated the Iranian leadership’s stance on regional issues and thanked Tehran for its continued support.
Both leaders emphasised that relations between Pakistan and Iran are based on a common foundation of religion, culture and history, and there is a need to make joint diplomatic efforts more effective for peace and stability in the region.
President Zardari strongly condemned Israeli actions against Iran and paid tribute to the steadfastness of the Iranian people in the 12-day war. The President expressed special gratitude to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei for taking a stand in favour of the Kashmiri people. The President expressed hope that this visit of the Iranian President will give a new dimension to the close relations between the two countries and further strengthen mutual cooperation in the region.
