President Zardari to be discharged soon after COVID treatment: Dr.Asim

President Zardari contracts COVID-19: Dr Asim Hussain

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari’s health is stable and improving after he tested positive for COVID-19, his personal physician, Dr. Asim Hussain, confirmed during a media briefing on Saturday.

Dr. Hussain dismissed rumors circulating on social media and Indian news channels regarding the president’s condition as “fake and concocted.”

The president experienced health complications during Eid prayers, prompting his medical team to move him from Nawabshah to Karachi for further evaluation. “Upon assessment, we decided to shift him to Karachi, where comprehensive tests confirmed a COVID-19 diagnosis,” Dr. Hussain explained.

“President Zardari was admitted on Monday night, and necessary treatments—including some medicines imported from abroad—were administered,” he said. “By the grace of Allah, his condition is steadily improving.”

The physician added that the president is expected to be discharged within the next two days, which should put an end to the misinformation surrounding his health.

Dr. Hussain also cautioned the public against assuming that COVID-19 is no longer a threat. “While the situation is not as severe as during the peak of the pandemic, the virus persists in Pakistan, and new cases are still being reported,” he said, clarifying that the president had contracted a new variant of the coronavirus.
