Stanley Johnny, Foreign Editor at The Hindu, has publicly apologized for accidentally sharing false information on social media.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Johnny admitted he retweeted a video that wrongly claimed the Indian Navy had attacked Karachi. The video turned out to be fake.
“There is a thick smog of propaganda everywhere,” Johnny wrote. “I try my best to stick to facts and avoid conspiracy theories. But sometimes, when retweeting, you assume the other platform is sharing real news. This time, it was fake. I owe you an apology.”
His statement highlights the challenges journalists face in verifying viral content, especially during times of heightened tensions. Johnny’s apology has drawn mixed reactions, with some praising his accountability while others criticize the initial mistake.
