MARDAN: A local former Nazim was shot dead in the Rustam area of Mardan district here on Thursday evening, Media reports.
According to the local police, Ayub Khan, a former Nazim was targeted from a close range in his vehicle, in which he was travelling due to which he died instantly.
Police officials said, the shooting incident took place in Malindri area of Rustam police station, where unknown armed men opened indiscriminate firing at the former Nazim’s car.
Police said the suspects managed to escape from the scene after committing the crime, while the dead body was taken to the type D-Hospital Rustam for autopsy.
According to media reports, the incident took place due to a land dispute. The deceased’s funeral prayers were offered in Malindri.
The deceased Ayub Khan was a senior leader of the Pakistan People Party and had been Nazim of the Union Council Bazaar of Rustam for three tenures.
