LAHORE: Quetta Gladiators secured a nail-biting 2-wicket win over Islamabad United in the 23rd match of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, held at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Chasing 158, Quetta crossed the finish line in the final over, aided by key middle-order contributions and Islamabad’s costly fielding lapses, including three dropped catches in the closing overs that allowed Quetta to stay in the game and eventually claim victory.
Earlier, Islamabad United, sent in to bat, managed 157 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs. Mohammad Nawaz led the scoring with 49 runs, while Sahibzada Farhan added 39. Quetta’s Faheem Ashraf was instrumental with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 25 runs.
Islamabad were without regular skipper Shadab Khan, sidelined with a groin injury sustained during a previous game against Peshawar Zalmi. Salman Ali Agha stepped in as captain, while Shadab awaits scan results.
The win lifted Quetta Gladiators above Islamabad United on the points table. Before this match, Islamabad held 10 points from seven games, just ahead of Quetta’s 9. The outcome could be crucial in the playoff race.
Quetta’s win not only improves their qualification prospects but also spotlights Islamabad’s fielding woes—an area they’ll need to sharpen as the tournament progresses.
