PTA zonal office Peshawar and NCCIA crack down on illegal SIM sales in Charsadda

PTA conducts quality of service survey for fixed-line broadband in Pakistan

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Zonal Office Peshawar, in collaboration with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), conducted joint raids in Charsadda targeting illegal SIM activations.

The raids led to the confiscation of multiple pre-activated SIMs, 3 BVS devices, 3 laptops, 7 mobile phones, 150 suspected SIMs, several Afghan cards and CNICs. Three individuals were arrested, and further investigations are underway.

PTA remains steadfast in its efforts to curb illegal SIM sales and urges the public to report such activities through its website: www.pta.gov.pk, contributing to a safer and more secure digital ecosystem in Pakistan.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, Lahore, conducted a successful raid on Ufone Franchise in Mianwali. The franchise was found to be involved in the illegal issuance of SIMs.

During the operation, 496 digital fingerprint impressions (single impressions), Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, two scanners, and a laptop were seized. The FIA team confiscated these items as evidence, and the franchise owner was arrested with an FIR registered for further legal action. The FIA Cyber Crime Circle has launched an investigation to identify additional offenders.

The raids are part of PTA’s ongoing efforts to prevent the circumvention of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS). This resolute and unwavering commitment underscores the Authority’s dedication to eradicating the illegal issuance of SIMs.
