LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to launch the next phase of its protest movement, as senior party leadership arrived in Lahore to finalize the strategy.
According to party sources, a high-profile PTI convoy led by Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur reached Lahore on Saturday. The group includes key leaders from the PTI’s central command as well as lawmakers from the Punjab and KP assemblies.
The convoy crossed the Ravi Bridge and moved towards Raiwind Road, skipping a previously announced press conference. In Shahdara, the leadership was received by a large gathering of enthusiastic party supporters.
However, the reception was marred by the arrest of senior PTI leader and ticket-holder Yasir Gillani, who was taken into custody by police near Shahdara and moved to an undisclosed location, eyewitnesses reported. Despite the arrest, the PTI leadership continued with their scheduled plans.
A joint meeting of PTI’s parliamentary members from Punjab, KP, and the National Assembly is slated for this evening on Raiwind Road. The session, chaired by Barrister Gohar and CM Gandapur, will finalize the roadmap for the party’s protest campaign.
Sources say a press conference is scheduled for tomorrow, during which PTI will formally announce details of the planned protests, their objectives, and the nationwide mobilization strategy.
