PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) parliamentary party has decided to approve the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa budget in a bid to safeguard the continuation of the provincial government.
According to party sources, the decision was taken during a high-level meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar. The session was attended by Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, Senator Shibli Faraz, PTI Central Spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram, and Provincial General Secretary Ali Asghar Khan, among others.
All members present at the meeting were consulted regarding the budget, and a consensus was reached to support its approval.
Addressing the participants, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said the federal government was attempting to use the budget delay as an excuse to declare an economic emergency and dissolve the provincial setup.
He stressed that passing the budget was essential to foil what he termed a “conspiracy” by the centre. Gandapur further noted that changes to the budget could still be made after consultation with PTI founder Imran Khan, adding that efforts were underway to facilitate such a meeting.
