PESHAWAR: Dr. Ibad, Leader of the Opposition in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly, has stated that the disgruntled members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will not impact the opposition’s seats in the upcoming Senate elections.
Speaking to Pakhtun Digital, Dr. Ibad said that even if unhappy PTI members do not withdraw their candidacies, they will have to go through the election process, but the opposition will still secure all its seats.
He explained that the agreement with the government regarding Senate seats was made solely to prevent horse-trading (vote buying and selling) and claimed some success in this effort.
Dr. Ibad dismissed concerns over PTI’s dissatisfied lawmakers, saying, “They are not a threat to the opposition.” He reaffirmed his commitment to the deal made with Ali Amin Gandapur, stating, “We made this agreement to stop the pre-Senate election horse-trading markets.”
The opposition leader expressed concerns that the assembly session for oath-taking might be postponed due to a lack of quorum. If this happens, the opposition will request the Chief Justice to intervene, as the constitution allows.
Efforts are underway to complete the oath-taking by Sunday evening. If any hurdles arise, the process will be completed before the Senate election session.
