PTI in financial crisis: Media head resigns over unpaid salaries

PTI, Arrest warrants

ISLAMABAD: Subghatullah Virk, the head of PTI’s Media Department, has resigned, citing financial and political pressures. Sources say Virk, who had been in hiding due to political troubles, felt abandoned by the party. His resignation has been sent to PTI leadership.

The crisis deepened as dozens of PTI lawmakers allegedly ignored instructions from the party’s founding chairman to contribute funds for operational expenses. Meanwhile, employees at PTI’s central secretariat are struggling due to unpaid salaries and prolonged pay cuts.

Since October 2024, staff have been receiving only half their salaries, with no solution in sight. Many workers, including those who faced arrests and torture during protests, claim the leadership has failed to fulfill promises of payment. Some employees named in FIRs have also been dismissed.

PTI admits to financial difficulties but the unpaid salaries—reportedly a few lakhs—have caused embarrassment. Despite appeals to senior leaders like Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Sheikh Waqas Akram, no action has been taken to resolve the issue.
