Budget 2025-26: Big relief for salaried class and government employees

LAHORE: The Punjab government will present its budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the provincial assembly today (Monday), with Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman set to unveil the financial plan.

The finance minister stated that the new budget would reflect the developmental agenda of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He confirmed that no new taxes will be imposed this year; instead, the government will focus on improving the collection of existing levies.

Addressing the media, Shuja ur Rehman said the budget emphasizes optimal utilization of provincial assets to generate revenue. He noted that key initiatives in education, healthcare, and social protection launched under the chief minister’s leadership would continue with renewed momentum.

“This budget caters to all,” he said, highlighting dedicated measures for women, children, persons with disabilities, and laborers. Support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) will also be expanded through financial and technical assistance.

The government plans to further enhance the Kisan Card initiative to better support farmers across the province. The finance minister added that the budget is grounded in economic growth, transparency, and social welfare, with a strong focus on development—especially in underprivileged areas, including South Punjab.

In conclusion, Shuja ur Rehman assured that the upcoming budget will be inclusive and people-centric, aiming to uplift every segment of society without leaving anyone behind.
