LAHORE/PESHAWAR: Punjab Chief Minister CM Maryam Nawaz reached out to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur by phone, expressing deep sorrow for the lives lost in recent floods and natural disasters across KP.
CM Maryam Nawaz offered her sympathy to families affected by the floods and specifically gave condolences for the crew members killed in a helicopter crash during relief efforts. She assured CM Gandapur that Punjab stands ready to help, stating all Punjab government resources are available to support KP and its people during this difficult time. She emphasized that the people of Punjab share the grief of their KP brothers and sisters.
KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur thanked CM Nawaz and expressed appreciation for Punjab’s offer of support.
This call comes as severe floods, landslides, and cloudbursts have caused widespread destruction in districts across KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. The death toll has surpassed 200, with many more injured or missing.
The situation is especially dire in Buner district, where floods killed over 150 people and left many missing. Entire villages were swept away, destroying homes, livestock, and vehicles. Buner is now under a state of emergency and declared a disaster area, along with Bajaur, Mansehra, and Battagram.
In Bajaur, 21 people died due to a cloudburst and landslides. In Mansehra, the bodies of 16 people swept away by floods were recovered in Battagram.
Adding to the tragedy, a KP government helicopter on a relief mission to flood-hit Bajaur crashed, killing all five crew members, including two pilots.
The scale of the disaster has created a serious humanitarian crisis in KP and surrounding regions. Both federal and provincial governments are now intensifying relief and rehabilitation efforts.
