LAHORE: Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Punjab government has launched a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation programme for flood victims, with a detailed survey set to commence on September 12.
A high-level meeting chaired by Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed at the PDMA head office in Lahore reviewed the framework for damage assessment and victim assistance. The meeting was attended by Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia, and senior officials from the irrigation, agriculture, local government, communication and works, and urban unit departments.
Relief Commissioner Javed stated that the joint survey teams will comprise representatives from the Urban Unit, Pakistan Army, revenue staff, and agriculture and livestock departments. The survey will collect data on human casualties, crop destruction, damaged houses, and livestock losses.
According to official figures, 4,155 villages across Punjab have been affected, impacting more than 4.15 million people. Families of deceased victims are being compensated with Rs. 1 million each, while financial aid is also being provided for partially and fully destroyed houses.
Compensation will further cover per-acre crop damage and loss of livestock. The final approval of the relief package will be given by CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure transparency and timely assistance for all victims.
