Punjab’s wheat loan strategy hurting farmers, endangering food security: Muzzammil Aslam

Muzzammil Aslam

Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Finance and interprovincial coordination Muzzammil Aslam, reacting to the Punjab government’s claim of repaying the loan taken from local banks, said that the Punjab government claims to have repaid the loan taken from local banks for wheat procurement but it is worth pondering that such a wealthy province still has to buy wheat on credit. He expressed these views in a statement issued yesterday from his office.
Muzzammil Aslam said that, on the other hand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s local debt is zero, and the provincial government purchased wheat last year from the treasury without taking loans.
Muzzammil Aslam further said that due to this unwise policy of the Punjab government, farmers across Punjab have been crushed, and, in turn, the country’s food security has been put at risk.

In a major step towards youth empowerment and skill development, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has established the Technical Training Centre in Hayatabad, Peshawar, making it the first globally accredited training institute in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The facility has received international accreditation from SIAS UK, paving the way for world-class certification that will enhance employment prospects for the youth at both national and international levels.
The institute offers training in modern and high-demand trades, including General Electrician, Solar PV Technician, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and Computer Numerical Control (CNC). These specialised skills are aligned with evolving global industry standards, making graduates more competitive in international job markets.
Officials believe the initiative will lead to a significant increase in employment opportunities for the province’s youth, particularly in overseas sectors where technical skills are in high demand.
Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur said in a statement regarding the initiative that the government was committed to empowering the youth in line with Imran Khan’s vision. He termed the initiative a revolutionary step that will not only support the local economy but also strengthen Pakistan’s presence in the global skilled workforce.
