PDMA ordered evacuation as Water flow at Qadirabad Head Works is increasing

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that the water pressure in the Chenab River Head Qadirabad is increasing, and the water flow at Head Qadirabad has reached 996,000 cusecs, which is more than the capacity.

PDMA Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathia states that the capacity of Head Qadirabad is 800,000 cusecs of water, with approximately 200,000 cusecs of water exceeding the capacity. According to DG PDMA, there is a risk of the dam breaking due to water pressure on the left side. The areas of Hafizabad, Chiniot will be affected in case of the collapse of the Headworks.

PDMA has further said that instructions have been issued to the deputy commissioners to evacuate citizens, teams from the district administration and the irrigation department are present on the spot.

The flood situation in the Ravi River continues; the water flow at Shahdara has exceeded one lakh cusecs. The continuous increase in water in the rivers in different areas of Punjab has further increased the risk of flooding.

According to sources, the district administration rescue teams are seen reviewing the situation from time to time. Commissioner Lahore says that a flood of one and a half lakh cusecs is likely to pass this morning, while the water flow in Kasur has reached 2,63000 cusecs, due to which nearby villages have been submerged, and the process of transferring the victims is underway.

The Ravi River has risen at Head Baloki, and several villages have been submerged after the safety dam at Bheko Chak in Shakargarh broke. Keeping in mind the flood situation, rescue personnel and the district administration have been put on high alert.

Sources further said that sirens have been sounded to warn the citizens, and more than 500 families have been shifted to safer places. Meanwhile, the water level in the Sutlej River has also started rising at Lodhran. The flood situation near Chiniot has increased to a dangerous level.

Efforts have been intensified to save the historic bridge and the city, while the administration has completed preparations to break the dam. More than one million thirty-two thousand cusecs of water is flowing at Head Khanki. Water has entered the residential areas of Wazirabad.
