The upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday late night received a heavy rain coupled with a windstorm, which turned the weather cold.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms swept through Peshawar and surrounding areas on Saturday night and continued till Sunday, causing widespread flooding and disrupting daily life.
The downpour, which began around 6:30 AM, lasted for about an hour, submerging roads under water. Dark clouds continue to dominate the city’s skyline, with light drizzle and strong winds reported on Tuesday as well. The wet conditions are not limited to Peshawar, as Dir and Chitral have been experiencing rainfall for the past two days.
In Chitral, snowfall resumed overnight, adding a fresh blanket of white to the mountainous landscape. The return of rain and snow has brought back winter-like conditions, prompting residents of Chitral, Dir, Swat, and other hilly regions to pull out warm clothing once again.
Humidity levels remain high, with Chitral at 100%, Dir at 93%, and Peshawar at 90%, intensifying the damp and cold feel. The rain is expected to continue in Chitral, Dir, Malam Jabba, and Abbottabad until the weekend, while Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan are likely to see clearer skies by Friday.
The weather department has forecast intermittent rain and snowfall in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, warning of possible disruptions in mountainous routes.
Similarly, light rain and breezy conditions are expected in several districts of Punjab over the next two days, according to meteorologists.
The meteorological department predicts rainfall in Murree (17-19°C), Bahawalpur (37-39°C), Dera Ghazi Khan (29-31°C), Multan (32-34°C), Chakwal (29-31°C), Faisalabad (32-34°C), Sargodha (29-31°C), Lahore (33-35°C), Attock (30-32°C), Rawalpindi (28-30°C), Jhelum (28-30°C), and Sahiwal (34-36°C) on Wednesday and Thursday.
Humidity remains high, particularly in Multan (91%), Bahawalpur (75%), and Jhelum (73%), contributing to the oppressive weather. By Friday, most cities will experience clearer skies, with temperatures rising by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
In Lahore, temperatures are forecast to range between 33°C and 35°C during the rainy spell, climbing to 35-37°C on Friday under sunny skies. While the rain will bring brief relief, the humidity will keep conditions warm and sticky.
The scattered showers across Punjab are expected to improve air quality and provide a more pleasant atmosphere, according to meteorologists.
