PESHAWAR: Peshawar and surrounding areas experienced rain accompanied by strong winds, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures on Wednesday.
The minimum temperature recorded was 12 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain and snowfall in the upper regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Buner, Malakand, and Bajaur, over the next 24 hours. Thundershowers are also expected in Mohmand, Khyber, Swabi, Charsadda, and Nowshera, while rain is likely in Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, and DI Khan.
PDMA Issues Alert and Advises Precautions Amid Rain and Landslide Risks
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued directives to take preventive measures to handle potential emergencies, including landslides. Citizens have been advised to avoid dilapidated buildings, and tourists are urged to refrain from visiting sensitive upper areas. Necessary precautions should be taken to ensure safety during the adverse weather conditions.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Power Supply Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Heavy rain in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has disrupted the electric supply in Peshawar and other parts of the province, according to a Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) spokesperson. The rain damaged electric supply lines, causing 41 feeders to trip across the province. Specifically, 21 feeders were affected in Bannu district, 12 in Khyber, 3 in Peshawar, and 5 in Dera Ismail Khan (DIKHAN).
PESCO on High Alert to Restore Power Supply
On the instructions of PESCO Chief Executive Officer Akhtar Hameed Khan, field staff has been put on high alert to address the power outages. The company is working to restore supply and has already succeeded in some areas. PESCO stated that once the intensity of the rain decreases, the process of restoring power will be expedited in the remaining affected areas.
