ISLAMABAD: Light to heavy rains in several cities including Islamabad and Lahore and snowfall over the hills in the northern areas lowered temperature in the country.
Various parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Islamabad received rains last night and early in the morning on Thursday. Gilgit Baltistan, and northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Chitral, Dir and Galiyat received snow.
The rain will bring relief to citizens affected by poor air quality caused by the prolonged dry spell. The Met office reports that the rain will continue until February 21.
However, the rain disrupted Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) transmission system. Dozens of feeders tripped, causing power outages in multiple areas.
Rain has also been reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Kasur, Attock, Kala Bagh, Bhakkar, Darya Khan, Nankana Sahib, Muridke, Hangu, and Ghotki.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that heavy snowfall could lead to road closures and slippery conditions in hilly areas from the night of February 19 to February 21.
The PMD also warns of the possibility of landslides and avalanches in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galliyat during this period. Tourists are advised to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
