ISLAMABAD: The longstanding tradition of providing free charity meals during the holy month of Ramazan is ongoing in the federal capital, Islamabad, as individuals and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) come together to serve Iftar meals.
Various ‘Dastarkhwans’ and ‘Langars’ (free Iftar food spots) have been established across the city, with banners and posters displayed on main roads directing those fasting during Ramadan to these locations.
Youth, including foreign nationals, particularly from Indonesia, are actively participating in the effort to serve those in need. One large free food spot has been set up in G-9 Islamabad, where a significant number of people, including laborers and daily wage workers, are being provided meals at Iftar time.
“We have been operating this DastarKhwan, named Ramazan Mehraban, for the last nine years, with the sole aim of serving those in need on the streets,” said the organizer, emphasizing the importance of helping people in need. He highlighted that they raise funds internally and support the underprivileged through various initiatives.
He mentioned that it costs around Rs250 per person to provide quality meals, which include Chicken Qorma and fruits. He urged the community to support the impoverished and noted that anyone interested in helping can reach out to their team through their Facebook page, “Act Kindness.”
In addition to community-based Dastarkhwan efforts, NGOs and welfare organizations have also organized daily Iftar dinners at their designated locations to assist those in need during this holy month. These facilities have been set up in various sectors of Islamabad and near hospitals to provide support to people during Ramadan.
