ISLAMABAD: The director of Pakistan’s Seismological Center, Dr. Najeeb Ahmed, has confirmed an active fault line near Rawat is causing frequent minor earthquakes in the area. His comments came after tremors were felt across Islamabad, Chakwal, and surrounding regions.
Regarding today’s quake, Dr. Ahmed clarified it was of “medium intensity” (magnitude below 5.5) and unlikely to trigger aftershocks. “Only quakes above 5.5 magnitude typically produce aftershocks,” he stated, urging citizens to remain calm.
Authorities are continuously monitoring the fault line and maintain emergency preparedness. The seismic activity near Rawat remains under close observation.
