D I KHAN: A major corruption scandal involving medicines and funds worth crores has surfaced at MTI District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital of Dera Ismail Khan, the hometown of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur.
Chairman Board of Governors (BOG) Raza Ali Gandapur and Hospital Director Dr. Tahir Gandapur raided the hospital store and caught the theft of medicines worth Rs 1.5 crore. An FIR has been registered against the storekeeper, assistant storekeeper, and several facilitators.
Dr. Tahir Gandapur blamed the caretaker government for the corruption. He claimed that Rs 600 million worth of government medicines vanished during the caretaker period.
He also said that former Chairman Board of Governance (BOG) Raza Ali Khan Gandapur had left Rs 1.27 billion in the hospital’s account. However, when the caretaker government’s BOG left, only Rs 217,000 remained. Seven investigation teams, including NAB and Anti-Corruption, are auditing the missing funds.
Dr. Tahir suggested that the former hospital director and a corrupt mafia could be backing the accused storekeepers.
However, some insiders question the claims. A hospital doctor, speaking anonymously, called it a cover-up. He pointed out that the hospital had faced a severe medicine shortage for months. “If medicines were missing, how were they suddenly found in the store?” he asked.
He also accused the current administration of staging the raid to hide its corruption. “They’re showing expired saline drops in the media to distract from the real issue,” he alleged.
He further cast doubt on the investigation’s transparency. “Since the current BOG is linked to PTI, a fair inquiry seems unlikely,” he said. He feared that the hospital administration was using low-ranking employees as scapegoats to protect itself.
The scandal raises serious concerns about corruption in the health sector. The public now awaits a fair and thorough investigation.
