HARIPUR: Over 100 passengers were stranded when a boat carrying them ran aground at Chandni Chowk, located at the Haripur Dam here on Sunday morning.
The District Administration of Haripur received reports that a boat carrying approximately 80 people, including women and children, was stranded near Chandni Point in Tarbela Lake. Upon receiving this information, the Deputy Commissioner of Haripur instructed the Assistant Commissioner to respond immediately. The Assistant Commissioner and the Rescue 1122 team quickly arrived at the scene. They transferred some passengers to a rescue boat to alleviate the extra load and ensure the safety of all individuals while bringing the boat to shore.
The boat was carrying 130 passengers, significantly exceeding its capacity of 70, violating safety protocols.
After the successful rescue operation, food and drinks were provided to the passengers. Additionally, the police have been instructed to arrest the boatman and other involved associates and to initiate legal action against them.
The operation was supervised by Assistant Commissioner Hamza Abbas, with participation from the district administration, Rescue 1122, police, and revenue staff, ensuring that all passengers were rescued safely.

Updates: Later in the evening, the Haripur administration issued a statement, stating that all the stranded passengers of the boat have been rescued safely.
It said legal action would be taken against the boat operator for violating the guidelines.
