Rescuers search for 11 missing after Boat capsizes in Indonesia

Indonesian boat capsizes; eight rescued, 11 still missing

Indonesian rescuers are urgently searching for 11 people who went missing after a boat capsized in stormy waters near the Mentawai Islands in West Sumatra. The incident occurred on Monday morning, with eight passengers already rescued.

Officials confirmed that the boat was carrying 18 people, including 10 local government employees, when it set off from Sikakap to a nearby town. Two rescue boats and multiple teams have been deployed to locate the missing individuals.

Indonesia, made up of over 17,000 islands, relies heavily on boats and ferries for transportation. However, accidents are frequent due to extreme weather and poor safety measures, including overloading.

Earlier this month, a ferry sank near Bali, killing 18 people, while 30 survived and 17 remain unaccounted for.
