Residents warned against alarming situation of child labour in KP

NOWSHERA: Residents of Nowshera warned the government and labour department regarding the alarming situation of child labour working in different workshops, which not only creates health issues for them but also deprives them of their basic education.

The local people hold the labour and social welfare department responsible for not awarding any scholarships and monthly stipends for their poor families to manage their household needs. As a result, they force their child to work hard in different places and bring some money to run their kitchen expenses.

The increasing rate of poverty in Pakistan has deprived children of their childhood education. Due to economic hardship and the helplessness of parents. Sometimes the workshop owners do not reward them with their basic pay as per the labour law, and only keep them as an intern on very low wages.

Talking to Pakhtun Digital one of the child labour told that he does not want to quit their education but due to the poverty and government support he come here to work in the workshop and support his poor family. He said that every child wants to get education but the situation is difficult in their country.

He said that minor children are seen working all day in workshops, hotels, tea houses, brick kilns and factories in different areas of the cities. He added that children were not only deprived of education but were also subjected to physical and mental exploitation.

The local said that it is the responsibility of the government and the social welfare department to look after those families who are poor and cannot support the education of their children. They said that there are multiple issues in our society which need immediate attention from the authorities.

Local social workers have demanded that the government introduce special schemes for the welfare and education of such children and ensure strict implementation of the law against child labour.
