Rohit Sharma addresses ODI retirement rumours

DUBAI: Following India’s historic Champions Trophy victory against New Zealand in Dubai, captain Rohit Sharma put an end to speculation about his ODI retirement, confirming his commitment to the 50-over format.

“I’m not retiring from this format… make sure no rumors are spread,” said Rohit, who played a crucial role in India’s third Champions Trophy win with a rapid 76-run knock.

Discussing India’s strategy for the tournament, Rohit highlighted the importance of spinners in their success.

“When I learned the tournament would be played in Dubai, we selected four spinners, knowing the pitches had seen enough cricket and would favour them. They turned out to be match-winners,” he explained.

Reflecting on the final’s tense moments, Rohit acknowledged the early loss of three wickets put the team under pressure.

“It was a tough phase, and we needed a big partnership to stabilize the game,” he noted, praising the team’s resilience.

He also addressed the disappointment of India’s 2023 World Cup final loss to Australia in Ahmedabad, acknowledging the heartbreak while focusing on the team’s continued determination and growth.
