KP govt launches financial assistance programs for orphans, widows

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP government has introduced two financial assistance programs, the Roshan Mustaqbal Card  and Sahara Card, aimed at supporting orphans and widows in the province. The programs were formally launched by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur during a ceremony at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar.

Under the Roshan Mustaqbal Card, orphans aged 5 to 16 will receive a monthly stipend of 10,000 rupees, increased from the initially planned 5,000 rupees. Priority will be given to children who have lost both parents. Approximately 9,000 orphans are expected to benefit from the initiative.

Similarly, the Sahara Card will provide widows aged 45 and above with a monthly stipend of 10,000 rupees, also doubled from the original amount of 5,000 rupees. The program is set to assist 15,000 widows across the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Minister Gandapur emphasized the government’s commitment to establishing a welfare state, a vision he attributed to the province’s leadership. “Taking care of the weaker sections of society is a fundamental principle of a welfare state,” he said. “We are working tirelessly to uplift the lives of the helpless under this vision.”

Gandapur praised those who prioritize the welfare of others, calling them “great people,” and reiterated that supporting deprived communities remains a top priority for his administration. He highlighted the government’s efforts to collect data on vulnerable populations, which has enabled the implementation of targeted welfare programs.
