LAHORE: Senior PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique declined to participate in the by-elections for National Assembly constituency NA-129 Lahore and termed it the right of local candidates.
Former federal minister Saad Rafique said in a statement that he had received messages from party workers and leaders for the by-elections.
He added that participating in the by-elections is the fundamental right of local candidates, but he does not want to participate in the by-elections as a candidate due to some unavoidable political reasons.
On the other hand, PPP Central Punjab held a consultative meeting for by-elections in three constituencies of Punjab, while the meeting was chaired by the Governor of Punjab and Hassan Murtaza.
The meeting discussed the election strategy for PP-87 Mianwali, NA-66 Wazirabad and NA-129 Lahore. Hassan Murtaza recommended the nomination of Zubair Hamza from PP-87 Mianwali.
General Secretary Central Punjab Hassan Murtaza said that the party will field a strong candidate in NA-66 Wazirabad, will give tickets for NA-129 Lahore on the recommendations of the parliamentary committee, and will contest the election and secure the seat for PPP.
“PPP is present in every house in Lahore, it only needs to be awakened, we need to fight in the election field instead of the drawing room, we will fight the by-elections with our resources and prove the presence of the PPP, we will not ask for a quota from the PML-N but will democratically contest the election” he further said.
