Technology company Huawei has taken the top spot from Samsung’s Galaxy A16 in the latest rankings of the most popular smartphones, which were released last week. The Huawei P80 Ultra, a new entry, secured first place, while the Samsung Galaxy A56 came in second.
Rounding out the rankings, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is in third place, followed by the OnePlus 13 S 5G in fourth, and the Xiaomi Redmi Turbo 4 Pro in fifth. The Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max is in sixth place, with the Xiaomi Poco X7 Pro in seventh. The Vivo iQOO Neo 10 5G is in eighth place, the Infinix GT 30 Pro is in ninth, and the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is in tenth place.

Apple’s iPhone 16 was the world’s best-selling smartphone in the first quarter of 2025, according to a new report by Counterpoint Research. The base iPhone 16 took the top spot, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro in second and third place, respectively. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 Plus also made the list, securing fourth and tenth positions.
While Android phones maintained a presence in the top 10, Samsung’s sales showed a decline compared to last year. The budget-friendly Samsung Galaxy A16 5G was the best-selling Android device, ranking fifth, while the premium Galaxy S25 Ultra dropped to seventh place. Last year, Samsung had two flagship models in the top 10, but this year only the Ultra model made the cut.
Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C 4G was the only non-Apple, non-Samsung phone on the list, taking eighth place ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy A55 and Apple’s iPhone 16 Plus. This marks a shift from last year, where Samsung had five models in the top 10.
The report also noted a rise in demand for budget smartphones under $100, which now make up a larger share of the top-selling devices. Analysts suggest that Samsung’s weaker performance may be due to a shorter sales window for the Galaxy S25 series in Q1, but the rise of competitors like Redmi indicates changing market trends.
