Saudi authorities deny rumours of Umrah visa ban

ISLAMABAD: The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has rejected recent social media claims that the country has imposed visa restrictions, including on Umrah visas, for citizens of 14 countries, including Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh.

In an official statement, the Ministry clarified that these reports were completely false and misleading. The Ministry explained that, as part of preparations for the Hajj season, a temporary suspension on visa issuance for certain dates has been implemented, as is customary every year. This measure applies to all countries without exception.

The Ministry further emphasised that the suspension pertains only to Umrah visas, while family and business visas will remain unaffected. Saudi authorities confirmed that this is a routine administrative process designed to enhance the organization of Hajj activities.

Sources indicated that the misinformation has been amplified by certain travel agents and other vested parties on social media, likely with the intent to create confusion and stir unnecessary concern among the public, particularly regarding the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry urged the public to rely on credible sources for information and avoid falling for unverified news. Additional details will be provided by the Saudi and Pakistani foreign ministries after April 6.

Authorities also recommended legal action against those spreading false or provocative messages, aiming to protect the public from misinformation and maintain strong bilateral ties. Umrah pilgrims have been advised to plan their travels based on accurate and reliable information to avoid unnecessary worries.
