Saudi cabinet vowed to strengthen, ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and India

RIYADH: The Saudi cabinet meeting has expressed commitment to further strengthen the ceasefire deal between Pakistan and India and welcomed the recent developments of peace on the line of control.

According to the Saudi news agency ‘SPA’, Minister of State and Cabinet Member and Acting Minister of Information Dr. Essam Saeed said that the meeting discussed the regional and international situation. The meeting welcomed the ceasefire between Pakistan and India and reiterated its commitment that ‘Saudi Arabia will continue its efforts, together with the international community, to achieve lasting peace between the two countries.’

Earlier, the Saudi Foreign Ministry in a statement welcomed the US-mediated ceasefire between Pakistan and India, expressing the hope that ‘this will pave the way for the restoration of security and stability in the region. The Foreign Ministry praised both countries for showing wisdom and restraint on the part of Saudi Arabia. Reiterated its support for resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means.

The statement emphasised the pursuit of the principles of good neighbourhood, which would promote peace and prosperity for both countries and their peoples. It may be recalled that Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan had separately telephoned Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Indian Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to discuss efforts to reduce tensions, prevent conflict, and end the ongoing military confrontation.

Earlier to this the Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir arrived in Islamabad on a one-day visit and met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had thanked Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump for their role in the ceasefire.
