Scorching heat hits KP, other parts of country

Potentially record-breaking heat wave in Pakistan is testing human limits

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted hot and dry conditions for most parts of the country on Sunday, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and a heatwave warning has been issued for the coming days.

According to the PMD, daytime temperatures in southern parts of the country—Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan—are expected to be 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal. Meanwhile, temperatures in Central and Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to be 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above average.

Islamabad and surrounding areas are expected to remain hot over the weekend, while most districts of Punjab will experience similar conditions.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see widespread hot and dry weather, with southern districts facing particularly severe heat.

Sindh is likely to experience the most extreme temperatures, rising up to 7 degrees Celsius above normal, while southern Balochistan will also face intense heat.

Though slightly less intense, dry weather will persist across Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan as well.
