SWAT:  The deputy commissioner, Swat, Shahzad Mehboob has imposed section 144 for 60 days, banning forest cutting across the district. The DC Swat issued a notification on Thursday stating that a ban has been imposed across the district Swat on forest cutting under section 144 of the Criminal Code for the next 60 days.

DC Swat said in the notification that a complete ban on illegal and legal forest cutting was imposed and would remain enforced for 60 days of this order.

The decision was taken in view of the current deforestation in parts of the district, increasing natural disasters and climate change.

The order further said that destructive tools like Chainsaws were being used illegally for cutting trees, hence it was necessary to ban them.

In addition, the need to protect forests on government and private lands and discourage the timber mafia has been emphasized to reduce the effects of climate change.

The order also states that strict legal action would be taken against violators under Section 188 PPC.
