MARDAN: In a major development for local healthcare, KP Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali has approved cardiac services coverage under the Sehat Card Plus program at Mardan Medical Complex (MMC).
This conditional approval, valid from July 10, 2025, to January 10, 2026, follows consultations between the KP Health Department and State Life Insurance Corporation. It will provide crucial heart treatment access to millions in Mardan and surrounding areas.
State Life’s official letter confirms MMC can now offer cardiology services. However, the approval is provisional due to the hospital’s current lack of emergency cardiac surgery facilities. To maintain services beyond January 2026, MMC must establish this surgical capability.
The hospital already has a Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and medical admission facilities.
State Life mandated that MMC must:
Ensure a trained interventional cardiologist is available
Provide 24/7 cath lab technicians and dedicated medical officers
Submit staff qualification details immediately
Failure to meet these requirements or submit progress reports by January 10, 2026, could result in suspension of cath lab services
