PESHAWAR: A formal ceremony was held today at the Central Police Office in Peshawar to mark the promotion of Abbas Ahsan to the rank of Additional Inspector General (IGP) of Police (Grade 21). Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police, Zulfiqar Hameed, and Additional IGP Operations, Muhammad Ali Babakhel, pinned the new rank badges on Ahsan’s shoulders.
The event was attended by high-ranking police officials, including Additional IGPs of Headquarters, Special Branch, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), and Training, as well as DIGs from various departments and commandants of Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) and Special Security Unit (SSU).
IGP Zulfiqar Hameed praised Ahsan’s intelligence, professionalism, and dedication to police service. He stated that promotions in the police force are based on merit, performance, and competence, and Ahsan has consistently excelled in all areas. The IGP highlighted Ahsan’s leadership during challenging situations and his contributions to maintaining law and order.
Abbas Ahsan joined the Police Service of Pakistan in 1999 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and served in key positions across the country, including ASP Chitral, SP Traffic Islamabad, and SSP Security Division Islamabad. After becoming a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in 2017, he served as Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) in Rawalpindi and Peshawar, Commandant of Police Training College Sihala, and Director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Most recently, he served as Additional Director General of Immigration at the FIA before being transferred back to the KP Police in July 2025 as Additional IGP of the Elite Force.
The ceremony concluded with appreciation for Ahsan’s long-standing service and a commitment to further strengthening security efforts in the province.
