Shehbaz meets with Iranian Ambassador, discusses regional situation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a key meeting today with Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, during which they discussed in detail the evolving regional situation and the recent Israeli attacks on Iran.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the ongoing International Maritime Expo and Conference in Karachi, where both countries representatives are participating in dialogues on defence cooperation and regional security.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the recent Israeli aggression against Iran, calling the attacks “utterly unacceptable.” He expressed complete solidarity with the Iranian people and stated that the entire Pakistani nation stands with Iran in this difficult hour. Referring to his recent telephonic conversation with the Iranian President, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that Pakistan has extended full diplomatic support to Iran at the United Nations Security Council. He further stated that the Israeli assaults represent a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law.

“Pakistan has always upheld the principled stance that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations must be respected,” the Prime Minister said. “These Israeli attacks are not just an assault on Iran, but a serious threat to peace across the entire region.” Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s continued support and solidarity. He noted that Iran considers Pakistan a close and trusted neighbour, and that the bilateral relationship is based on mutual respect, Islamic brotherhood, and shared interests.

Both sides emphasised the urgent need for closer consultation and cooperation to ensure peace and stability in the region. They agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties, expand trade relations, and enhance defence collaboration between the two countries. The meeting comes at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East, as global attention is increasingly focused on how key regional players will navigate the growing conflict through diplomacy and cooperation.
