KARACHI: The Sindh government has announced an elaborate lineup of events and competitions to mark Independence Day on August 14, including prizes for the best-decorated vehicles, shops, and buildings throughout the province.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah invited citizens to actively take part in the celebrations, which will feature major public events in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur. “Karachi will lead this year’s Independence Day festivities,” he noted.
Planned activities include a poetry night, rickshaw rally, human flag formation, and various competitions open to the public. Vintage car and heavy bike rallies will also be held to mark the occasion.
The provincial culture department has been assigned to organise singing contests, while the Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Mela, scheduled from August 9 to 11, will also be aligned with the Independence Day theme.
Highlighting security and logistics, the chief minister instructed the Inspector General of Police and DIG Traffic to ensure effective traffic management, calling for public cooperation during the events. “Even if it causes some inconvenience, we must endure it for the love of Pakistan,” he said.
He added that formal invitations will be sent to all political parties to take part in the celebrations.
