Cricket South Africa (CSA) has unveiled its plans for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, confirming that the majority of the tournament will be staged within its borders. The announcement, made on Thursday, included the formation of a local organizing committee to oversee the event.
Of the 54 scheduled matches, 44 will be held across eight premier venues in South Africa: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London, and Paarl. The remaining ten fixtures will be allocated to neighboring nations Zimbabwe and Namibia, emphasizing a collaborative African effort.
This tournament will mark the first time the men’s 50-over World Cup is held on the African continent since 2003. While South Africa has staged two Women’s World Cups in the interim (2005 and 2023), the return of the men’s flagship event is highly anticipated.
Leading the local organizing committee is Trevor Manuel, the former Finance Minister of South Africa. CSA Chairperson Pearl Maphoshe stated the organization’s ambition is to deliver a world-class event that showcases the nation’s diversity and unity.
