Space agency SUPARCO predicts Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 on Mar 31

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s national space agency said Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 would likely fall on Monday, March 31.

The Shawwal crescent moon marks the end of Ramadan and the start of Eid celebrations. Ramadan in Pakistan began on March 2, a day later than in most Muslim countries.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee observes the moon each year before Eid and announces the holiday.

“The moon is likely to be visible on March 30,” SUPARCO stated. “Ramadan will likely last 29 days, and Eid-ul-Fitr may be on March 31.”

Astronomical factors and traditional methods determine the moon sighting. Muslims look for the crescent moon after sunset on Ramadan’s 29th day. If they see it, the next day marks Eid.

Earlier today, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced three-day Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 holidays from March 31 to April 2.

According to the notification, three-day holidays from March 31 to April 2 (Monday to Wednesday) will be observed in the province on account of the Eid ul Fitr.

The federal government has declared a three-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, starting on March 31 and ending on April 2. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan for Muslims worldwide.

According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the final date for Eid-ul-Fitr will be determined based on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.

The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, along with zonal committees, will meet on March 30 (Sunday) evening to make an official announcement.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a high chance of the Shawwal moon being sighted on March 30, making March 31 the likely date for Eid celebrations.

The federal government has announced the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays on Wednesday.

As per the notification issued by the cabinet division, the holidays will be from March 31 to April 2.

According to the Meteorological Department’s focal person Anjum Nazir, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting will be held on March 30, when the moon will be 27 hours old and can be easily seen.

There will be a difference of about an hour between sunset and moonset, due to which the possibility of the moon being visible for an hour is clear.
