Special committee formed for Jirga restoration in merged tribal districts

ISLAMABAD:The Federal Ministry for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) has called a meeting on July 7th to discuss restoring the traditional jirga system in Pakistan’s merged tribal districts (formerly FATA).

This follows the formation of a special committee by SAFRON focused on this issue. The committee already held its first meeting on July 1st, chaired by the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON.

SAFRON has sent letters to 17 elected members of parliament – including MNAs, Senators, and MPAs representing the tribal districts – requesting their participation in the July 7th consultation. The meeting is scheduled for 11:00 AM.

The letter asks these tribal representatives to attend the consultation either in person or online to provide their input on restoring the jirga system
