CHITRAL: A tree plantation campaign was launched in the Chitral district on Friday with the arrival of spring, which will continue till the end of the season.
The inaugural ceremony was held in Dolomuch, where Deputy Commissioner Mohsin Iqbal, divisional forest officer, DFO Abdul Majeed and Khatib Shahi Masjid Maulana Khaliq-uz-Zaman launched the campaign by planting saplings.
The forest officials on the occasion claimed that more than 70,000 trees have been planted in various parts of Chitral to fill the shortage of trees and make the environment green.
The officials emphasized on the occasion that the plantation would help in preventing natural disasters and reducing global warming.
Government officials, students and women also participated in the event and were made aware of the significance of tree plantation. The cooperation of citizens has been declared essential for the success of this campaign.
