QUETTA: A suicide bomber exploded near the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) protest sit-in in Lak pass area of Mastung. Police confirmed that no casualties occurred.
Authorities reached the scene and launched an investigation. Aaj News Quetta Bureau Chief Mujeeb Ahmed, citing police sources, reported that Akhtar Mengal’s BNP and its allies were staging a sit-in nearby.
The bomber was apparently trying to reach them, but his vest detonated in the hilly terrain before he could.
Investigators are collecting the bomber’s body parts for forensic analysis to confirm his identity. Lakpass is about 35 kilometers south of Quetta.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind assured that all protest participants, including BNP leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, are safe. He confirmed that the BNP’s leadership remains unharmed. The provincial government has been in contact with BNP leaders since last night.
Senior journalist Hamid Mir shared a video of an eyewitness on his official account on X saying that a terrorist tried to enter the protest rally of BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal.
An eye witness who tried to grab the suicide bomber near Lak pass said that a terrorist tried to enter the protest rally of BNP-M chief Akhtar Mengal but he stopped him and confronted after the bomber exploded himself and his body parts were scattered.

Rind stated that a BNP delegation met with local officials on Friday night. They agreed that a government delegation would meet Sardar Akhtar Mengal today to address the party’s concerns.
The Balochistan government has launched a full investigation and promised to share findings soon. “Ensuring the safety of Sardar Akhtar Mengal, political leaders, and the public is our responsibility,” Rind said.
He urged BNP supporters and the public to cooperate with authorities. “The government is committed to peace and the protection of all citizens,” he added.
This attack follows a deadly explosion near Barech Market in Quetta on March 28. That blast killed three people and injured 21, including four police officers.
