ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has rejected the bail application of Assistant Food Controller Khalid Khan, the accused involved in the scandal of theft of 30,000 sacks of wheat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The case was heard by a two-member bench headed by Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi. During the hearing, the Additional Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took the stand that the accused had caused a loss of Rs 197.752 million to the KP government’s treasury.
The Additional Advocate General informed the court that the challan of the case has been submitted and the case is under hearing in the Anti-Corruption Court, Nowshera. He further said that the bails of other accused involved in the case has already been rejected.
After hearing the arguments of the parties, the court rejected Khalid Khan’s bail application, remarking that there is no justification for bail in a case involving such a huge financial loss. It should be remembered that this case is related to the large-scale theft of wheat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has raised many questions regarding administrative transparency and accountability at the provincial level.
