Swat residents protest prolonged power outage, block road

Solar-powered street lights malfunction in Bajaur

SWAT: Residents of Mingora city in Swat took to the streets in protest on Sunday after enduring a prolonged power blackout affecting several neighborhoods. The electricity went out around 6 pm on Saturday evening in areas including Gul Mashal, Aliabad, Rang Mohalla, and Gonbad Mira, and remained off for over 16 hours.

Frustrated citizens gathered at Nishat Chowk, blocking the road and chanting slogans against the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and their elected representatives. Protesters expressed severe hardship, stating the extended outage was crippling household routines, disrupting businesses, and halting water supply systems.

They accused the WAPDA department of causing unnecessary suffering and criticized elected officials for being unaware of the public’s plight. The protesters issued a clear demand: restore electricity immediately. They warned that if power is not restored promptly, they will expand their protest activities.
