PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has strongly condemned the recent drowning incident involving tourists in Swat, holding Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur directly responsible and demanding his immediate resignation.
In an official statement, the Governor expressed deep sorrow over the incident, calling it a national tragedy. “The entire nation mourns this heartbreaking loss,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister’s failure to respond promptly in an emergency situation reflects a serious lapse in leadership.
Governor Kundi stressed that blaming only local officials such as the Assistant Commissioner or rescue workers is unfair. He argued that the chief responsibility lies with the Chief Minister, as the tourism department falls directly under his jurisdiction. “Whether it’s hotels placing beds dangerously close to the riverbank or the absence of basic safety measures, it all points to negligence by the tourism authorities, which are under the CM’s control,” he said.
Criticizing the provincial administration, the Governor accused the government of abandoning the southern districts to the threat of militancy while setting new records in corruption. He further stated that mere statements of sympathy are not enough in the wake of such a devastating event.
“The government’s indifference and poor governance cannot go unnoticed,” he remarked, insisting that Chief Minister Gandapur must take moral and political responsibility and resign from his position.
The tragedy in Swat, which claimed several lives, has sparked public outrage and condemnation from political circles. The Governor’s call for resignation has now added a political dimension to the already emotionally charged situation, with attention now turning to how the Chief Minister will respond to these demands.
