SWAT: The University of Swat students on Tuesday staged a protest against the exorbitant fee hike and increase in bus fares. A large number of students participated in the protest.

Addressing the protest, Zia Shahid, Nazim of the Islamic Students’ Union Swat University, said that the Swat University administration should not try to close the doors of education for poor students.

He said that the exorbitant increase in fees is tantamount to closing the doors of education for poor students, which is not acceptable in any way.

Zia Shahid further said that petrol prices in the country have remained unchanged, but university buses had been increased by Rs100 to Rs150, which was a cruel decision. These decisions should be withdrawn immediately.

He also demanded that the entry of unrelated persons into the university be stopped and the administration take immediate steps to stop harassment.

The president of the Islamic Students’ Union made it clear that his organisation would always be at the forefront of protecting the rights of students and the university administration should take immediate steps to resolve the problems of the students.

He said that for the better future of the students, the university administration should appoint permanent lecturers instead of contract ones so that the academic performance of the students improves.

The protesters demanded that the university administration immediately resolve the problems of the students and keep the doors of education open for the poor students.

The students also demanded that the authorities immediately withdraw the increase in bus fares and fees at Swat University and provide relief to the students.
