Taliban army chief warns against any attempt to ‘reoccupy’ Afghanistan

The Taliban’s army chief, Fasihuddin Fitrat, has declared that any attempt to “reoccupy” Afghanistan will be met with fierce resistance, stating that the group is prepared to fight for “thousands of years if necessary.”

Speaking at an event marking the 33rd anniversary of the Mujahideen’s victory over the Soviet-backed government, Fitrat claimed that some Afghans who fled after the Taliban’s takeover might be backed by foreign forces to challenge their rule.

“We have fought for 45 years and will keep fighting for thousands more if needed,” he said, warning that the Taliban would not tolerate threats to their authority.
